Thinking about skipping out on meat and dairy? Going vegan is becoming increasingly more common, but is it actually good for you?
Following is the transcript of the video:
What happens to your body when you go vegan?
Thinking of making the jump to a vegan diet? You’re not alone.
In your first few weeks, you may feel especially tired. Without meat, vegans often have a hard time getting enough vitamin B12 and iron, which helps make red blood cells and transport oxygen throughout the body. But it’s nothing a supplement or handful of nuts can’t fix.
You may also discover that foods don’t taste the way they used to. That’s because your zinc levels have taken a hit, affecting your overall sense of taste and smell.
On the plus side, expect to lose some weight right away! After switching, new vegans lost an average of 10 pounds over a 10 month period. Plus, a 2009 study found that average BMI was lower for vegans than all other diets.
Another benefit that you may experience is a healthy decrease in cholesterol, blood pressure, and heart disease risk. In 1999, a study showed that vegans were 24% less likely to have clogged arteries from saturated fat and cholesterol.
While your arteries are better off, your bones may not be. If you’re like most Americans who get their daily calcium from dairy products, you may see a dip in calcium levels.
But you can combat this simply by boosting your intake of kale, broccoli, and other leafy greens. Plus, cutting out dairy might make you more … regular. 60% of humans don’t have the enzyme to properly digest lactose in dairy. The result is cramping, bloating, and even diarrhea. Swapping dairy with high fiber veggies will make bathroom trips a lot more productive.
Like any diet, veganism has its pros and cons. Be sure to research and see which diet is best for you.

Yeah tell that to my family members who have all suffered serious illnesses due to the nutritional void left by going vegan. You eat your processed food, just don't come crying to us when you get cancer in 20 years time.
CALCIUM FROM MILK IS A COMPLETE LIE- HUMANS CAN'T ABSORD DAIRY AND THE CALCIUM FROM DAIRY COWS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH HUMANS IT IS INFLAMMATORY AND ALSO… MADE FOR BABY COWS..There are multiple forms of plant based Calcium.
VEGAN GOING ON 8 YEARS- You can get everything you need from food. Inlcuding b12. I have had my blood work done and my b12 is optimal.
I’ve been vegetarian/almost vegan lol for almost 5 years. I’m 18, female, 5’6, 115lbs. so, if you’re like me(on the smaller or thinner side) definitely think about this before you start this diet because my entire vegetarian journey I have struggled to get the nutrients I need including b12, iron, zinc, biotin, etc. I’ve always had trouble gaining weight but it’s even harder on this kind of diet. I’ve struggled with hair loss, breakage, and dryness my skin has also gotten much dryer, my nails are weaker and bend and break easily. Tiredness has also been a major symptom for me which is really difficult, I sometimes sleep for 12+ hours and will still feel tired. I have noticed that it’s much harder for me to taste and smell differences in foods and other things, lately I’ve mostly been smelling and tasting sweet and sour sauce and pesto. my bones are much much weaker but this is because of a few things, I am lactose intolerant I was as a toddler and my mom got me used to having dairy and I lost the allergy so as a child a drank lots of milk and then shortly before I became vegetarian I started to have the allergy again. and I’m vitamin deficient so that doesn’t help the strength of my bones. the worst thing for me is definitely that it has so severely affected my hair, skin, and nails because I was already vitamin deficient before becoming vegetarian so those just got worse but I could deal with that easily with supplements, but it’s much harder to try and make my hair and skin healthy again. I hope this helps somebody!
When I went vegan I was not tired at all, my body actually felt better and cleaner and I got sick WAY less. I went vegan a few years ago at 13 and I’m NEVER going back, it made me feel so much healthier and happier and I still get the taste of real meat WITHOUT the meat! So many foods to choose from now like beyond meat and my non vegan friends tried it and like it more than real meat sometimes too! 🥰
Im trying to make the switch, it's not easy but pays benefits. Im doing it for selfish reasons, because i want to look good and feel good. I do believe you have to give yourself some slack and forgiveness, it takes time to learn how to eat and cook this lifestyle
Dang I’m skinny and trying to go vegan but I don’t want to loose weight
I personally feel more comfortable and enjoy eating including animal products in my diet but I do enjoy eating food items that have vegan alternatives.
I also hate it when my fruits and vegetables taste bad OMG ESPECIALLY FRUITS LIKE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME FRESH FRUITS NOT THAT HALF ROTTEN SHIT THATS BEEN IN YOUR REFRIGERATOR FOR YEARS
I just went vegan this week and I feel so much better! Love this lifestyle 🙂
My advice,
Don’t go vegan. But adopt a lot of vegan practices.
First thing you have to remember, is VEGAN DOES NOT MEAN HEALHTY! There are plenty of super unhealthy things, marketed as vegan, which naïve people think means healthy. Oreos for example, are vegan.
Plant based diets are great, but some meat/fish is necessary for a healthy diet. Once a month you should have a bloody steak. Have salmon a few times a month too. I’m a large rugby player/gym goer. I eat alot of veg as I love clean energy, but here’s my typical diet
Breakfast:
Big bowl of porridge using milk.
Kiwi kale banana spinach smoothie
Lunch:
Sometimes I skip lunch, but freshly baked bread, mixed leaves, pesto mustard and mayo, add chicken if you want.
Or vegan sausages
Snack:
Tea or coffee
Dinner:
Vegetarian lentil curry
Pasta with meat sauce (such as lasagne or bolognese)
Sushi
Grilled fish
Chickpeas dish
Be sure to do morning stretches when you wake up, I normally cycle 10km a day after my workout, helps you sleep better and feel better overall.
Be sure to get your meat from reputable sources, I live in EU so my meat is basically guaranteed to be the best quality in the world, but nowhere else has our freedoms and our rights, so if you live in a less advantaged area such as USA, be sure to check with your butcher or supermarket where/how the meat was sourced.
I feel better since being vegan….and less flatulence even with the beans 💨💨💩. 60% lactose intolerant? There's more than that globally that's lactose intolerant including the majority of Africa and Asia 🌏 😕.
Stop promoting this diet. A pure vegan diet is unhealthy. Humans are omnivores; we are designed to intake animal protein/fat, fruits/vegetables, and greens. Your team made this to profit off the advertising that comes with it. Be responsible; don’t promote veganism.
This is basura
My fiancé and I do vegan every January but now we think we’re gonna keep it up
False lol when I went vegan I felt wayyyyy more energy
First off iron comes from plants …..second we are herbavors not omnivores , we choose to eat meat …. nutrients are absorbed from plants ….some facts are wrong … except the B12 which is a bacteria …you can get it from almond milk or supplements
STRESS
Oh my god nothing scientist, propaganda, open research , use your head.
It ok if we kill cows we're saving the grass you animals eat
I'm a vegan
1: everyone harasses you for it
Milk is good
I want to give it a try for my new year resolution
Those who are interested in vegan diet and what to know what's best for you for example like if milk good for you or not, then read ayurveda. know your body constitution whether you're vata, kapha or pitta. Bcoz in vegan if you're vata then u need to be more careful about your digestion bcoz vata are more prone towards constipation. Bcoz they are space and air.
Mostly make our skin green or blue
The average person can get everything they need from a vegan diet but they will also have to be extra careful. You would need to closely monitor that you’re getting enough of a certain vitamin in your food groups. Also a daily vitamin should be taken as a precaution. If you’re nursing, or feeding an infant/toddler, you only want to feed them a vegan diet that is approved by a paediatrician.
