MAP Training is a novel intervention which combines silent meditation and aerobic exercise to produce profound effects on mental health outcomes as well as physical indices of health. It is very effective in decreasing symptoms of depression as well as reducing the rehearsal of unwanted memories of the past. For further information, see Shors et al., Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, 2014. It is noted that we also have very positive effects with MAP Training when it consists of silent sitting meditation followed by aerobic exercise on a treadmill or stationary bicycle (without the Zumba dance component). Obviously, this is easier to accomplish and more appealing for some individuals.
